My Favorite Things as of late

Just warning you now, this is an addictive site.  But I love it, sometimes after a long day of work I'll relax and do some pinning.  It helps keep me organized.  I used to have folders on my desktop of things I've found on the interent that I like, now I just pin them all.  I also like that it's just my friends pins that I see, not the dumb stuff people put on the interent (though sometimes I click on everything out of curiosity, and I always find the most ridiculous things).

Here's my pinterest if you want to take a look, you should join!

When we work, Seth and I like to listen to music.  We've been listening to Pandora (I like the Beach House and Voxtroxt) but we get a little sick of it.  Seth found this site, Turntable, where you go into different rooms (they are all labeled, everything form Hip Hop to acoustic indie) and if your lucky you can dj and play your own music, or just listen to what other people play.  Seth and I both have enough points that we have bear suits now, and it's awesome.  One Friday night we realized we were complete nerds, we were both dj'ing in the same room, trying to rack up points, instead of going out.

I bought this book (here) and I am obsessed.  It's a bunch of artists that came together for a studio in LA called Studio 1988 and they each created art work for favorite cult movies.  A lot of my favorite movies are featured including The Shining, The Big Lebowski, Pulp Fiction, Harold & Maude, Night of the Living Dead, and Rushmore.

I discovered Lush since living in Seattle, there's a shop downtown close to Pike Place.  MIchelle and I walked in once and I didn't expect to buy anything, I'm not picky about my shampoo or body wash (unlike my sister who is a product fiend).  But as soon as I smelled the shampoo bars and bath bombs I was in.  I now use their lotion, shampoo, soap, perfume...and occasionally I'll spend the money on a Mrs. Whippy bath bomb.  Everything smells so good there.

There are only 2 blogs I read consistently, and I read them everyday (another way to unwind after a long day of work).  Tom & Lorenzo are a fabulous gay couple who blog about fashion and tv shows mostly.  They do amazing recaps on Mad Men episodes.  They are so funny and down to earth (a trait that's a must for me if I"m going to read your blog).

Topless Robot is a nerd news blog, and I'm not really a nerd, I just have some nerdy traits (especially when it comes to computer and video games, even then I don't claim to know enough about anything to consider myself a real nerd).  But Rob, who writes it, is hilarious.  I'm not always interested in the posts but the daily list are always awesome, here's one of my favorites.

Since my favorite tv shows aren't on anymore, including the office, parks and rec, and mad men, True Blood has really filled the void.  Okay, that and Louie, which is an amazing show.  True Blood is awesome, its just so ridiculous I love it.  My all time favorite series Six Feet Under was done byt he same dude, Alan Ball.  This season is the best, and it's great because Seth watches it with me (he resisted at first, but he loves it now).

4th of July with the Family

I was so excited when my sister told me she was going to visit me here in Seattle (I love getting visitors!), and then on top of that, I found out Aunt Glo could come too, yay!.  They both came on the 4th, and it was a full house, but a happy house.  We went to Olympic National Park, did some sightseeing around the city, and did a photoshoot for both Ari and Henry.  We were able to see fireworks from the roof, so we had ourselves a little BBQ (our roof also has a grill yo) and it was a fine old time.  I'm just glad we didn't have to drive to get to fireworks, that is always a nightmare.

Henry asked if he could use my camera to take pictures, but since it's a rather nice camera I decided to give him one of my old point and shoots.  I made a little strap for him out of yarn and he loved it.  He took it with him everywhere we went, here he is at Sol Duc with it:

I put the images on my computer (I'm hoping to make him a little book of his time here) and I thought they were pretty neat, here are some of my favorites.

(I might have taken this first one of Ari)

As you can see, I think my little nephews are the greatest ever.

Seattle (Washington Part II)

When we moved here, a lot of people asked us why, and we didn't have a great answer.  I mean, we didn't move for a job, and we have no family.  So I wasn't sure how to answer except, we like it.  When we were dating, Seth and I came to Seattle to visit some friends.  It was a great trip, and we really liked this city.  It was also at the beginning of our relationship, when everything was new and we were really excited about this new thing we had.  So I guess in a way, this city is sentimental to us, it was a place we both fell in love with, our first trip together.  It was the only place that made sense to go after graduating. Because we had no idea where we wanted to go.  Salt Lake seemed like the obvious choice, but also the most convenient and I needed to get out of there for a while.  So we came here, and Seth has loved living here, I came to realize I miss having family and I'm not sure I really love the vibe and energy of the city at times.  But, I do love the city itself, if that makes sense.  So taking our family around to all these places we forget to go bc we live here, I felt proud of our little Seattle, the place we've called home for the last 11 months.

The nice thing about visitors is you do things you overlook when you live here.  We hardly go to the Pike Place market, but even though it's full of tourists pretty much 24/7, it's an awesome market.

We got lunch at a chowder place in Post Alley.  It was so good.  Ever since moving here, I have rediscovered how amazingly good Clam Chowder is, this place had all different types of chowders (I worry that once I leave Seattle Chowder just won't taste the same).

There are two places we never miss when going downtown, Beecher's mac and cheese, and Le Panier.  Beecher's has the best mac n cheese I've ever had, and Le Panier has really good citron and some other good french pastries (I prefer the macarons here in Ballard at Honore).

Beecher's:

One place we thought the kids would like is the Gum Wall, which Seth and I haven't been to since we came to visit a few years ago.  I know it's gross, but I like how colorful it is.

Cannon looks a little unsure about it all.

After that we did some shopping, and we found this cute Map store Seth and I never noticed before.  We did end up buying a really cool map.  We need to get it framed but we might wait until we move (it's a really cool map, did I mention that?)

Another thing we did with my family, that we haven't since we came to visit, was go to Gasworks Park.  I don't know why we haven't gone here since living here, it's an awesome park, definitely something to do when you come to Seattle.  You can see the whole city.  It's just awesome.  Plus, Seth and I had a really good time coming here the first time, revisiting it again years later was really, well, romantic.  If you do go here, I suggest coming right before sunset so you can see the park, and then the city lights at night.

These are just some of my favorite places in Seattle, but there is lots to see and lots to do here.  I will miss it when I'm gone!
